🧢 A chance to see The Missing Act
The Missing Act is an exhibition of new paintings by artist Max Gimson, winner of the ninth Jonathan Vickers Fine Art Award. Established by Foundation Derbyshire in 1998, with the help of a legacy from the late Jonathan Vickers, this biennial Award brings to Derbyshire a rising artist every two years to produce work on the theme ‘A Sense of Place’, inspired by the county’s people, heritage and landscape. Gimson’s body of new work will go on show in solo exhibitions at both Derby Museum and Art Gallery (through to 23 February) and the Mall Galleries in London.
🧢 Major improvements planned for The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery
A leading Stoke-on-Trent construction company has been awarded a contract to take forward the multi-million-pound remodelling of the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery. Seddon Construction will start the initial works, ahead of the construction phase in 2025, as part of a £5 million masterplan which will see major improvements to the award- winning city centre venue. Stoke-on-Trent City Council secured money for the re-modelling works last year from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and Arts Council England. The revamp will ensure the museum is modernised and enhanced for locals and visitors alike to enjoy for many years to come; and the overall plan is to create a striking building and new spaces to showcase our city’s world class museum collections while enhancing the experience for visitors.
